March 20/10
Minor Division

1sr Star -  Christi Bulk (Sabres)  Christi netted her first GHL goal against her sister's team and was robbed by Bowman on an opportunity for a second

2nd Star- Jason Keon (Flames) His figure skating and ballet moves were obvious on the ice for this do or die game against the Penguins

3rd Star- Michelle Keidi (Canucks) Her hustle and forechecking skills contributed to the 5-2 win over the Sabres.

Pro Divsion Stars

1st Star - Derrick VenderLely (Bruins)  Shows us he still has it with his 5 point night of 3 goals and 2 assists.

2nd Star- Andrew McGrath (Hawks) Without his game winning goal, the Hawks may not have been playing in the final.

3rd Star- Justin Peacock (Rangers) He shut down the hungry Leafs in a game that was played soley for pride

Minor Division Stars

1st Star- Denise Boyko (Canucks) - her first hatrick couldn't have come at a better time in a 4-3 Canucks playoff win

2nd Star - Sarah-Jade Lowen (Penguins) - awesome goal from an amazing pass (Jen Hillier)

3rd Star - Grant Beiman (Penguins) - just back from the Olympics he obviously learned a few things from Team Cananda

March 13/10
Minor Division Stars

1st Star- Steve Jeffery (Penguins) Shut-out the Canucks with or without posts.

2nd Star- Erica Ferguson (Sabres) Played an excellent game with some great neutral zone plays and a nifty through the legs dipsy-doodle to get the puck in the zone move.

3rd Star - Eric Dick (Penguins) - His early goals proved fatal for the Canucks.

Pro Divsion Stars

1st Star - P.J. Coholan (Leafs) - Barely able to make it to the arena because of the storm, PJ was not going to let his team down. Many shots by the Hawks but PJ could not be beat and he stole the game!

2nd Star - Adrian Dywan (Canadiens) - Sweet moves by Dywan lead to his first hattrick of the year.

3rd Star - Patricia Pailing (Wings) - Played an excellent game, scoring the Wings first goal of the game.
 

Pro Division Stars

1st Star - Rob Grimwood (Leafs) came through with less than 10 seconds to go to score the important game tying goal

2nd Star -Cindy Shantz (Bruins) for amazing defence, shutting down the towers of Blackhawk power

3rd Star - Shawn Peever (Wings) was on fire with many crucial saves throughout the game. It's playoffs and he is ready!!! (probably all that extra pickup)

Minor Division Stars

1st Star - Alie VanBrug (Sabres)- Alie had another solid game with her aggresive play in the corners while keeping with the GHL spirit.

2nd Star - Jason Keon (Flames) great goal & excellent backwards-through-the-legs passes.


3rd Star - Tom Ferguson (Canucks) Tom has taken his ball hockey skills and brought them to the ice. He will be a force to be reckoned with in the playoffs.

Pro Division Stars

1st Star - Brett Matte (Leafs) - got the monkey off his back, just in time for the playoffs, but he still  finished 1 goal behind Scott Turner in regular season

2nd Star - Jon Wiens (Wings) -fantastic game, made a difference on the ice every shift and was rewarded with 2 goals.

3rd Star -
Sean Thompson (Leafs) excellent sportsmanship & a great attitude on the bench all year


Feb 20/10
Minor Division Stars

1st Star - Bekki Matte (Flames) - "played her butt off and had tons of chances before scoring her first of the year."

2nd Star - Nick Pelych (Sabres) - Impressive 2-way play, getting his linemates involved, and for strong team building and encouragement of the younger players on his team (oh wait...isn't that everyone?)

3rd Star - Larry "The Lighthouse" Orth (Canucks) - played a solid game at centre, scoring a beauty just for Greenway, proving he is a team player.

 

Pro Division Stars


1st Star - Brian Schmidt (Hawks) - Made some outstanding saves at key moments, including a kick save on a wide open net to preserve a one goal lead.

2nd Star - Joe Caurso (Wings) - Had the game winning goal on a great individual play and had a strong overall game from star to finish.

3rd Star - Al Thompson (Wings) - aka - "Mr. Passer" - decided to get a little selfish and take some shots which resulted in 2 goals.

The GHL would like to congratulate Gavin and Kristy Duncan on the arrival of their the little Valentine, Gabriella Claire, born at 11:23, 7lbs 14oz and 21 inches!

Minor Division Stars


1st Star - Kristen Blakely (Sabres) - scored her first goal of the season; later moved back to provide some solid D in helping the Sabres maintain a shutout against the league-leading Penguins.

2nd Star - Megan Leighton (Penguins) - will do anything to block a shot - including using her big toe!

3rd Star - Jenn Alexander (Canucks) - proved good things happen when you are in front of the net with her timely game-tying goal.

Pro Division Stars


1st Star - Inderpal Jaswal (Leafs) - Who said this sharp shooter wasn't a pro?!? Indy had 2 goals and had many chances for the hat trick.

2nd Star - Nigel Davis (Wings) - Wings management state that Nigel had his best game of the year; he was in the rush most of the game and have several chances to score.

3rd Star - Cindy Shantz (Bruins) - For defensive play rivaling Dion Phaneuf. (that is a compliment)

Minor Division Stars


1st Star - Terry Grout (Flames) winner of the Flames "Hard Hat" award also wins the honour of being first star for first ever hat trick ever!  Although.... rumour has it he only scored one!

2nd Star - Judy Bowman (Sabres) solid face-offs... solid game.

3rd Star - Danielle Froise (Canucks) brought her velcro stick to the game and played a game of excellent defence.

Pro Division Stars


1st Star - Heather Grimwood (Leafs) stood strong and played some solid defence.

2nd Star - Diane Thomson (Canadiens) ...is there anything this girl can't do?

3rd Star - Gordon Ng (Redwings) played a fantastic game and hustled absolutely every shift.

1st Star - Doug Mcgrath (Sabres) scored a great goal to tie up the game against the 2nd place Flames

2nd Star - Murray Evason (Penguins) had a great game resulting in his first  hat trick of the year

3rd Star - Sue Marshall (Flames) played strong - awesome game!

Pro Division Stars


1st Star - Sherrie Davis-Thompson (Redwings) made some great passes and kept the GHL spirit in a tough game against the Rangers. As Captain of the the Wings, Sherrie kept positive and continued to cheer on her team throughout the entire game.

2nd Star - Dominic Mengia (Leafs) aka "stonehands"  scored a "really sick goal" according to his teammates

3rd Star - Justin Peacock (Rangers) with his 3rd shutout of the 2009/2010 season

Minor Division Stars


1st Star - Rebecca Wilms (Sabres) got off to a bit of a shaky start, but once she remembered to take off her skate guard, she was off and flying! Great game!

2nd Star - Jen Hillier (Pengruins) made a number of timely defensive plays in her game against the Sabres.

3rd Star - Jen Bulk (Canucks) was hot tonight with her first GHL hat trick along with 2 assists.

Pro Division Stars


1st Star - Sherrie Davis-Thompson (Wings)  With not having to worry about covering the defensive liabilities of her husband (who was absent this week), Sherrie was able to show offensive flair with 3 assists.

2nd Star - Diane Thompson (Canadiens) Scored the first of what should be many GHL goals.

3rd Star - Scott Jarvis (Hawks)  incredible game on both ends of the ice with a beautiful tip-in goal.

Minor Division Stars


1st Star - Grant Bieman (Penguins) is all even - with 2 goals in his most recent game, he now sits with 9 goals and 9 assists!

2nd Star - Christine Thompson (Flames) played an aggressive game which lead to both a goal and an assist.

3rd Star - Matt Greenway (Canucks) proves to be mastering the game of ice hockey - ususally a defensman, Matt showed that he can play any position with 2 breakaways on forward.

Pro Division Stars


1st Star - Rob Stanclik (Hawks) - scored his first goal this season in a way that could only be described as one-of-a-kind, or as an opposing player stated - "in a way that Alex Ovechkin never will!". Doing a 360 at the blueline, then patiently and methodically maneuvering his way through the zone and sending the puck flying almost as a lob into the net in a way that would confuse any goalie. Combined with his defensive efforts, the entire Hawks team instantly claimed Rob as MVP of the week! (ed note - should that be MVP of the weak?!?)

2nd Star - Joe Copeland (Canadiens) - Le capitain turned in a monster performance with 2 goals and 1 assist

3rd Star - Steve Coatsworth (Canadiens) - Added 1 goals and 2 assists in the dismantling of the big bad Bruins.

Minor Division Stars


1st Star - Jodie Boverhoff (Flames), with her first goal AND first assist of the season. However, it is questionable whether it was Jodie who scored because she was nowhere near the net by the time the goaltender realized what happened.

2nd Star - Ellen Holmes(Penguins), performance on defence was as solid as ever.

3rd Star - Janet Stanclik (Flames), aggresiveness in front of the net paid off with a goal!

Pro Division Stars


1st Star - Henry VanderLeek (Wings) - Finally a well deserved goal. Henry has been robbed a least a dozen times this year by GHL goalies

2nd Star - Tim Arnold (Wings) - 2 goals for the forward who is on quite the tear right now

3rd Star - James Bell (Leafs) - Turned in a gut wrenching(!) performance.

Congratulations to Terry, Michelle and big brother Cameron Grout on the birth of Preston Alexander who was born on Wednesday December 23, 2009. After spending Christmas in the hospital, everyone is home, happy and safe and looking forward to the year ahead.

1st Star - Denise Boyko (Canucks) played a solid game; she went hard to the net and was rewarded with a goal

2nd Star - Cheryl Kowalik (Flames) after showing up a little late played a stellar game, even dropping back to play def half way through.

3rd Star - Cameron Bowman (Canucks) let in the longest goal ever coming from behind the Flames net but made some huge saves to win the game


Pro Division Stars

1st Star - Sean Thompson (Leafs) - Showed a lot of offensive instincts with many rushes which resulted in a nice goal.

2nd Star - Ralph D'Amico (Canadiens) - 2 Goals against the league-leading Rangers will earn you a star

3rd Star - Roberta Schoonings (Wings) & Sue Marshall (Leafs) - Roberta had a big impact in her defensive zone and Sue was outstanding in being a last minute fill-in goalie

1st Star - Steve Jeffries (Penguins) shutout the flames 4-0.....is now 8-5-0 with a 2.15 gaa, 2 shutouts (Associated Press aka - facebook)

2nd Star - Yoko Hurst (Penguins) a huge factor in the win against the Flames with 3 assists.

3rd Star Daniellle Froese (Canucks) solid defensive play kept the Sabre snipers at bay

Pro Division Stars


1st Star - The Ghost of Christmas Present - aka - Brian Schmidt (Hawks) - actually played a great game and turned in a star performance against the Canadiens...actually.

2nd Star - The Ghost of Christmas Past  - aka - PJ Coholon's Replacement (Leafs) - Chris Laubach filled in for the injured goalie and stole the show with save after save.

3rd Star - The Ghost of Christmas Future - aka - Jarred Stewart (Canadiens) - One of the youngest male GHLers, he notched a goal and had his best game of the season.

Congratulations to Chris Hoy who scored his first GHL goal on Saturday night. He would like to thank Kathi Plug for helping him get to the net.   Kudos to the Penguins multifaceted defensive team for scoring all three goals against the Flames on Saturday night. Way to go Ellen, Chris and Yoko!

Minor Division Stars  


1st Star - Michelle Keida (Canucks) 1st goal of the season; game winner; great positioning; keeping the puck in deep

2nd Star - Phil Bowman (Sabres) recently back from injury proved nothing can stop him as he showed up solid on defence and whipping out his quick shots from the point

3rd Star - 3 stars for 3rd star!  Ellen Holmes, Kris Hoy, and Yoko Hurst - the entire defensive squad  of the Penguins - for scoring all of the goals against the Flames.  Ellen's first goal in three years, Kris' first GHL goal and Yoko, just showing us how it is done.

Pro Division Stars


1st Star - Ralph D'Amico (Canadiens) - Was involved in all 4 Canadiens goals by notching 3 goals and 1 assist

2nd Star - Derrick VanderLely (Bruins) - Turned in a hattrick against the powerful Wings

3rd Star - Angie Humphrey (Rangers) - Turned in a 'Gordie Howe' hattrick with 1 goal, 1 assist and 1 penalty

1st Star - Jessica Button (Flames) with a major league tip-in

2nd Star - Doug Harman (Sabres) whose defense kept the Penguins at bay, while being in on both goals for the Sabres leading them to victory

3rd Star - Carleigh Ross (Canucks) Queen of the face-offs

1st Star - Jordan Nyenhuis (Hawks) - A hat-trick for the Hawk sharp shooter.

2nd Star - Jon Wiens (Wings) - Scored both goals in the Wings loss

3rd Star - Dave Leighton (Rangers) - Strong play in both the offensive and defensive zones  

Hats off to Sarah-jade Loewen of the Penguins for scoring her first 'real' GHL goal against the Sabres. In the same game, Joanne Symanski of the Sabres registered her first point with an assist on the winning goal. Both the minor and pro division saw leading candidates for of 'goal of the year' as Dave Leighton of the Rangers scored on a great give and go and Jessica Button scored on a major league tip-in.

1st Star - Terry Grout (Flames) - With 2G, the soon to be father can score on the ice as well 

2nd Star - Phil Bowman (Sabres) - The return of Phil helped propel the Sabres to a nice 3-3 tie against the Flames

3rd Star Jen Bulk (Canucks) - 1G and 2A for the rookie player was a key factor in the Canucks victory

Pro Division Stars


1st Star - Joe Caruso (Wings) - Mr Consistency is now adding points to his game - look out.

2nd Star Laura Blakely (Bruins) - Won a lot of crucial faceoffs and came through with a nice goal

3rd Star Brent Harman (Rangers) - Last year's minor division points champ has already reached double digits in the pro division already with another 2G   

Congratulations to Tracy Phelps who coached the A.N. Myer senior girls basketball team to a SOSSA championship! We wish her and the girls the best of luck as they travel to London on Wednesday for OFSSA.

1st Star - Sue Marshall (Flames) - Had a key penalty save at the end of the game to gain a win against the rival Penguins 

2nd Star -  Murray Evason (Penguins) - 1G, 1A against the Flames. Would have been first star if not for Sue's penalty save against him

3rd Star - Kris Hoy (Penguins) - Looks like the power skating is paying off for the rookie Penguin  

Pro Division Stars


1st Star - Dan Jahnke (Hawks) - GM lead the way with a goal and two assists as the Hawks snapped a five game losing streak

2nd Star - Jordan Nyenhuis (Hawks) - Also had a goal and two assists in the Hawks big win

3rd Star - Joe Richardson (Wings) - Best game of the year for the defenseman who kept the Leafs in their own end a lot by pinching in 

*** GHL Trade ***  The Commish would like to announce a trade between the Canucks and Penguins! Newbie Jennifer Bulk will be going to the Canucks (potentially being exactly what the team needs), while Kristen Verbeek will be joining some old friends on the Penguins. 1st Star Steve D'Orazio (Bruins) - New team, new result. Made a few key saves in his first game with the Bruins

2nd Star Indy Jaswal (Leafs) - Scored his first goal (of many to come in the pro division)

3rd Star Dave Robins (Bruins) - Dominated the neutral zone in his team's big win over the Leafs   

*** GHL TRADE *** The Commish would like the announce an eight player trade between the Bruins and the Canadiens. Going to the Canadiens is Ralph D'Amico, Sandra DeRose, Rick Giancola and Chris Laubach. In exchange the Bruins receive Steve D'Orazio, Ken and Marlene Hodgins and Kelly Jones.

1st Star - Len Kowalik (Flames) - Notched all of the Flames 3 goals in a 4-3 loss to the Penguins

2nd Star - Nick Pelych (Sabres) - Played outstanding and chipped in 2 goals in a 3-2 Sabres win

3rd Star - Kristen Blakely (Sabres) - Kristen's hard work in Sunday Night hockey is definitely resulting in improved play in Saturday Night hockey.

1st Star - Steve D'Orazio (Canadiens) - Helped backstop the Canadiens to a tie that ended the Canadiens losing streak

2nd Star Kelly Rigby (Canadiens) -  Played a solid game at D and limit the Wings to only 2 goals

3rd Star Dennis Brenneman (Rangers) - Once he found the ice after a period, he played a great final 2 periods

1st Star - Ellen Holmes (Penguins) - Ellen played her usual superb game on defense and helped get the Penguins back to .500 

2nd Star Phil Bowman (Sabres) - Even in a 2-1 loss, the Sabres defense kept the high scoring Flames offense in check

3rd Star Janet Stanclik (Flames) - The hardest working member of the Flames on the night, Janet was a dangerous threat around the net all night

1st Star Tyler Larose (Rangers) - The GHL's Fantasy Pool sleeper pick led the Rangers with 2 goals this week

2nd Star Derrick VanderLely (Bruins) -  Sniper turned passer? 3 assists in one game seems to suggest so

3rd Star Tim Salisbury (Wings) - Both of the games that Mr. Selke has played in have been 1-0 victories. Any surprises with this defensive forward?

1st Star - Cameron Bowman (Canucks) - The Canucks rookie goalie rebounded from a 9-6 loss and shined in a 0-0 tie vs the Sabres 

2nd Star - Bob McKay (Sabres) - Bob matched Cameron save for save in the scoreless draw against the Canucks

3rd Star - Sue Marshall (Flames) - In a clean sweep by the goalies, Sue secures third star in a stellar shutout against the Penguins

Pro Division Stars


1st Star - Austin Lamothe (Hawks) - In just his second GHL game, the Hawks forward scored 3 goals and an assist in a 7-1 blowout

2nd Star - Steve Gall (Leafs) - Along with a first period goals Steve scored 2 more goals with less than 3 minutes to go to help the Leafs comeback to tie the Bruins

3rd Star - Justin Peacock (Rangers) - Even though he was on the wrong end of a 1-0 loss, the Rangers goalie kept the team in the game with several outstanding saves

In one of the highest scoring nights ever, 4 players secured a hat trick - Indy Jaswal (Flames), Scott Turner (Canucks), Gord Ng (Wings) and James Bell (Leafs) all had 3 goals for their teams Christine Thompson of the Flames became the first player in recent memory to have 4 assists in one game

There were more first time GHL goal scorers last night - Austin Lamothe of the Hawks and Tom Ferguson of the Canucks notched their first goals
