Welcome to GHLNiagara

The GHL is Niagara's original co-ed non-contact beginner hockey league. This league was created for adults who have little or no childhood hockey experience. We have two seasons per year:

September > March: Saturdays in Virgil (26 Games)

May > August: Fridays in St. Catharines (13 Games)

The GHL has over 250 members and provides a fantastic hockey experience, complete with GMs, captains, coaches, referees, scorekeepers, and one amazing, friendly atmosphere.

Week 8 MVPs

3

Kevin Chabot (Canucks) - Outstanding game for all the Canucks this week in a big 3-0 win over the Flames! While all the Canucks were on fire, Kevin stood tall in net and made some great stopsto preserve the shutout and give his team the W. Great job Kevin!

0

Dean Frado! (Flames) - Deaner played stellar on D this week for the Flames. He had good poise, great backchecking and even had a few shots to boot! Well done Deaner!

2

Tristan Morrison (Bruins) - Tristan volunteered to mind the net this week. He stopped a spicy onslaught of shots from the Habs who came on strong. Tristan made some ridiculous glove saves and even carried the puck up the ice a few times. Go figure, a Bruin channeling his inner Patrick Roy (who needs a crease?). Tristan did an amazing job and demonstrated what GHL spirit is all about. Congrats Tristan on a game well played!

5

Adria Campbell (Canadiens) - Adria is improving every week and this week showed fantastic positional play while wreaking havoc along the boards for the feisty Bruins. When the Bruins were in our end, again Adria stayed true to her role and to the blue line while not making it easy for the Bruins on the point. The Canadiens give a shout out to the Bruins and especially Tristan Alexander for stepping in as the best "non-goalie goalie" we've ever faced.

3

Krista Catella (Oilers) - After missing the previous game in order to become a Mrs, Krista did not have many misses in backing the Oilers to an exciting tie against the Ducks. Congrats on being the Oilers MVP this week Krista.

3

Dan O’Callaghan (Ducks) - 2 goals including the tying marker with exactly the right amount of time remaining regardless of what anyone might say! It’s called the luck of the Irish!

1

Tim Bilton (Hawks) - Tim has been playing solid defence all year. On Saturday night, showcasing some of his great passes while getting some solid chances on net. Thanks for being a key part of the team, Tim!

1

Geoff Hunt (Rangers) - The Blackhawks gave Geoff quite the work out this week, he had to fight off so many shots on net and saved us in the end keeping us with a nice tie instead of a loss! Way to go Geoff! (He was very tired after that Game 😉)

0

Andrew Proudlock (Wings) - Andrew is one of our rookies and was asked to play centre in game 2. Andrew has a natural gift for the position and has done an amazing job every game! Congratulations Andrew! Go Wings Go!

0

Steph Thorne (Leafs) - Steph volunteered to fill a spot on defence. Made a couple of strong rushes up the ice with shots on net. Controlled the ice by playing passing the puck up to the forwards. Was given a late tripping penalty while battling for the puck in the opposing end. Argued the call and will have revenge on the ref. (Drew)

2

Rob Peto (Sabres) - Rob made tons of saves in the 2nd period to keep the Sabres in this game. Some nice goals in the 3rd by the visitors secured the victory. Nice win Sharks and congrats to Mike for a few goals.

5

Mike Ferelli (Sharks) - Mike had an amazing game, scoring two goals on back to back shifts with two different sticks, one of which he had to borrow after his stick was tossed out of the game. Also, special mention to Emily for scoring her first major goal, she placed her self perfectly by the net to secure that goal. Great game to all the Sharks!

The GHL is actively looking to recruit new minor goalies. Please contact Nick if you are interested or if you know any minor goalies who might be interested in filling in or trying out for future seasons. We can arrange for loaner gear if this is something you've wanted to try but don't have the equipment for.
